Application : 5454 aluminum alloy has been specifically developed for use in the manufacture of aluminum tank/dry bulk trailers and dump bodies. Our product's high strength, excellent weldability, formability, and corrosion resistance meets manufacturing and commercial requirements for cargoes from dry bulk to aggressive liquids.
Features :Bulk Transport mill finish offers customers improved surface consistency and brightness with reduced surface blemishes and imperfections. Alcoa's Bulk Transport Sheet is most frequently used for a wide variety of dump bodies and trailers hauling dry bulk and abrasive materials. Surface blemishes on this engineered product are held to a minimum with brightness and image clarity being more typical of a uniform finish.
Principal Design Features:
AL 5454 is a non-heat treatable alloy of aluminum and magnesium. It is a moderate strength alloy that may be hardened (strengthened) by cold working.
Applications: Commonly used in the manufacture of welded structures, pressure vessels, and in marine service.
Machinability: The machinability of Al 5454 is fair to poor. It is best to do machining operations with the alloy in the H-34 temper condition. Use of oil lubricants is recommended, except that very light cuts may be done dry.
Heat Treatment: This alloy is not heat treatable, except for annealing to relieve cold working - see "Annealing".
Hot Working: Hot working may be accomplished in the temperature range of 700 to 400 F.
Cold Working: Cold working is easily accomplished with this alloy by conventional methods. It may be cold worked satisfactorily in either the annealed condition or any of the H-32, H-34, H-111 tempers..
